Luminita Copiilor – The light of the children

In 1993, the association “For Romanian Orphans e.V.” was founded by Claire Thobe-Arza, 1st Chairman. She has been actively involved with children’s projects in Europe for a long time and has been awarded a medal by the state of Baden-Wurttemberg. For example, during the war in Bosnia she worked in various refugee camps to give the children of civil war hope, security and safety.

The association has been working to improve the lives of abandoned and orphaned Romanian children in Sighisoara / Schäßburg since 1999. The association center currently supports 57 children including their families. 17 children have already been successfully placed with foster families.

The local situation is extreme: Some of the children go for days without a warm meal, share a ten sqm emergency shelter with 13 family members and have to contribute to their family's survival at an early age.

The LR GLOBAL KIDS FUND e.V. supports the team in Romania with warm free meals for the children in the therapy center. The families of the children are given monthly financial support to cover basic needs. There will be new computers in the center that offer the children the chance to get in touch with the outside world.
