Poland

Certain regions of Silesia are amongst the poorest in Poland. Afflicted by unemployment and severe social problems, some people live in old, dilapidated houses without central heating, only an outdoor toilet and no prospects. Social problems like alcoholism, violence and drug abuse are a part of everyday life.

In 1991 the founder of “House of Guardian Angels” organisation, was confronted with this extreme poverty. He saw people sleeping in tunnels of the underground, youths prostituting themselves, children without the hope of a sound future.

He immediately decided to do something about it. At first he and his team were street workers and in 1994 he discovered an old abandoned house by an underground station in Katowice: the “House of Guardian Angels” was born. The purpose was: to get children off the streets and to give them the strength to find a way to change their sad and hopeless lives for the better.

The LR GLOBAL KIDS FUND provides best possible support to the “House of Guardian Angels” team.
