The international human rights organization "soleterre" is actively committed in Italy to their involvement in projects like the "Italian Permanent National Observatory for the defence of basic rights and the counteracting of discrimination against Sinti and Roma" which is part of the initiative "2007 European Year of Equal Opportunities" for Sinti and Roma rights.
Within this framework, the focus is on supporting needy children and women, who, thanks to various programs, are provided with the opportunity of receiving a proper education and extended vocational training as well as basic health measures and support with respect to societal integration. "soleterre" operates directly at the Roma and Sinti camps to fully evaluate their needs.
In our view, a fine and very important job that deserves our support, because each child on this planet has a right to a future full of hope!
The Roma and Sinti population are a "national minority" and were victims of genocide during World War II: at that time, over 500,000 were prosecuted and murdered for reasons of "race". Today, the Roma and Sinti still suffer from discrimination and racism and are often shunned by society.
