Hippotherapy is a form of horse riding for therapeutic purposes that complements physiotherapy. The movements of the horse are gently transmitted to the human pelvis, providing physical exercise and neurophysiological benefits. This method of treatment is made all the more effective by the sheer delight children take in this close contact with the horse. Such is the power of this motivational factor that the first signs of success are evident after just 4 or 5 treatments.
In the Czech Republic the LR GLOBAL KIDS FUND is supporting the “HLUCÍN Children’s Ranch”.
Here on the ranch, mentally and physically handicapped children are treated with the aid of 18 specially trained horses, pediatricians, neurologists, psychologists and hippotherapists. This successful ranch is the only one of its kind in the world, and its facilities and treatments are precisely tuned to the needs of its patients.
In addition to hippotherapy, to aid the children’s recovery the “HLUCÍN Children’s Ranch” also offers therapy using dogs, rehabilitation, sports for the disabled, training in horse and stable management and even a children’s zoo.
For lack of financial support, the development of the ranch was in danger of stagnating. So the LR GLOBAL KIDS FUND has stepped in to assist this worthy institution. The fresh funding will enable the ranch to employ extra therapists and provide accommodation facilities for disabled guests, all with the object of helping large numbers of handicapped children even more effectively in future.
